Notice of Nomination method for the Virginia House of Delegates District 40

Pursuant to the laws of the State of Virginia, Candidates seeking the Democratic Nomination for the Virginia House of Delegates District 40 should hereby be advised:

Candidates seeking the Democratic nomination must submit their Declaration of Candidacy, along with the required number of original signed and notarized petition signatures of registered voters from within the District. Candidates must also submit proof of payment of required filing fees.

To facilitate receipt of the necessary documents, a Roanoke County Democratic Committee representative will be present from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm on March 17, 2025 at the Brambleton Recreation Center, 3738 Brambleton Ave, Roanoke, VA 24018. Candidates wishing to find another time to submit their materials should contact Brandon Lewis, Chair of the HD 40 Nominating Committee at Chair@rocodems.com. The deadline to submit candidate materials is April 3, 2025, at 5:00 pm. Absolutely no documents will be accepted after 5:00 pm on April 3, 2025. Candidates will be listed on the June 17, 2025 Democratic Primary Ballot in the order in which their completed (and certified) documents are received.

Following the filing deadline on April 3, 2025, the HD 40 Nominating Committee will review the submitted materials, verify the petition signatures, and submit the names of all candidates who have fulfilled the filing requirements to the Virginia State Board of Elections not later than April 8, 2025 at 5:00 pm. The date of the primary election is Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
